Shift Your Shopping encourages residents to exercise their buying power to strengthen Chester's local economy. Americans spend a large portion of their annual retail shopping budget between November 1st and December 31st—about $700 per shopper according to the National Retail Federation. Numerous studies show that if those dollars are shifted to locally owned, independent businesses, they'll generate far more economic benefit in local communities than money spent at local chain outlets or businesses outside the community.
Beyond the economic impacts, however, Shift Your Shopping is also about celebrating the uniqueness of Chester. "By shifting the focus of holiday shopping to locally owned, independent businesses," says Kathy Barbieri, President of the Historic Chester Business Association, "we can strengthen our community and economy, create more jobs, and—equally important—we can enjoy more relaxed and rewarding experiences doing holiday shopping."
Locals and tourists alike discover unique gifts daily in many of our 80+ specialty shops that feature highly sought-after antiques, crafts, clothing, jewelry, artwork, home furnishings and accessories, pet products and pet grooming, to name just a few. While you're in town, you'll want to indulge in the distinctive culinary artistry and innovative cuisines found at our restaurants and the scrumptious confections and gourmet chocolates offered at our sweet shops. Chester is also home to The Chester Springs Shopping Center, The Streets of Chester Mall, one of the Best Craft Shows in the nation, numerous farms and parks... and the renowned Cooper Gristmill, offering a full-day of excitement for both family and friends.
Treat yourself and your loved ones to a Historic Chester Experience you will never forget. In-store events, holiday sales, and complimentary holiday treats will be offered at various merchant locations to enchant even the Grinchiest of bargain hunters.
